3 Recommendation

I have excellent recommendations from faculty and staff at Benedictine Academy, in particular the President and Principal who have recently retired or moved on (now principal at DePaul). I've remained active with BA over the years where I assist their annual Career Day. Since it's a one-off schedule day with no particular connection to student class schedules, working with staff, alumni officers, and a former student, I produce a schedule for the approximately 200 students, each ranking their favorite sessions from among 8 choices.

In addtion to education, I am most interested in software technology, where in the early '90s I contributed to the IEEE standard for the Portable Operating System Interface eXecutive, aka POSIX. Today, example of systems derived from that standard are Linux, BSD, and Mac OS-X.

In the technology arena, while at Bell Labs, I am a joint holder of one of the most seminal patents for the 21st Century (9/24/1996): U.S.# 5,559,520: Wireless Information System for Acquiring Location Related Information. It has been referenced by upwards of 425 (early 2016) other patents; many (most?) mobile apps today rely on the invention.

My significant software paper, The Software Assembly Line with Bill Anderson offers one mechanical engineer and one data scientist's perspectives on how we might better organize the work-flow in creating software.

In the course of my career I've presented papers to audiences of all sizes, one so large as 1500. I regard myself as an affable and approachable public speaker. As Will Rodgers once replied when asked to present on a familiar subject, "How long do I have to speak?" – Why do you ask? "If only for five minutes, it will take me a week to prepare. If you can give me an hour, I can begin right now".
